Provides indirect fire support with launched grenades, also can mark targets with launched smoke markers.
~ In-game description

The Grenadier is one of the Fire Support roles available in Squad. A Grenadier is usually armed with a standard rifle with an under-barrel grenade launcher (UGL) mounted on it; the exception is the second grenadier class of the Turkish Land Forces, which has a revolver-style multiple grenade launcher (MGL).

Description[ | ]

The Grenadier's role is to provide indirect fire support with his UGL using:

  • either High-Explosive shells to engage enemy infantry behind light cover at a range of up to 400 meters
  • or smoke shells, providing a smokescreen to conceal friendly forces as well as disorienting enemy.

Thanks to the V10 Update, learning the arc at which the grenades fly from your UGL is no longer necessary, all one must do is use the games in game ranging system. The majority of UGL ranging systems provide a "low arc" direct-fire mode; the Russian GP-25 UGL also has a indirect fire mode that throws a "high arc" like a mortar. Players should still learn to add or subtract angles for distances between pre-set range options.

Each squad is limited to one grenadier kit.

Loadout[ | ]

  1. Assault Rifle, Carbine or Battle Rifle
  2. 0-1 Pistols, Knife
  3. 10 Frag/HE/HEDP Rounds
  4. 2 White Smoke Rounds, 2 + 2 Colored Smoke Rounds
  5. 2 Field Dressings
  6. Entrenching Tool, 0-1 Field Binoculars

Conventional factions receive a powerful optic on their primary. Unconventional factions receive a pistol and field binoculars.

Gameplay[ | ]

  • The main weapon of the Grenadier is the HE/Frag/HEDP grenade.
    • Each grenadier gets around 10 such grenades, allowing for a volley to be launched.
    • A good grenadier is effective at a range of up to 300-400 meters.
    • The main purpose of the explosive shell is to eliminate tightly packed groups of enemy infantry. The blast radius is slightly smaller than that of a frag grenade.
    • The HE shell also has some use against light vehicles:
      • 5 shells can destroy a technical or vehicles of a comparable HP.
      • Most shells have 5–10 mm of penetration. They cannot damage the armored hull of most wheeled infantry fighting vehicles (except from the back, but even that is unreliable), but can deflate one tire with just one direct hit, making them much easier targets for the Light Anti-Tank player.
  • The grenadier should also use their smoke grenades to provide concealment for teammates and obscure vision from enemy positions. Fired rounds provide a column of smoke, big enough for covering doorways and upper windows. Smoking entrenched enemy positions could cut them off from the battle.
  • A Squad Leader or teammate with a rangefinder could provide the grenadier with an exact distance to the target.
