The M4 rifle is the carbine variant of the larger M16 series of rifles, first adopted by the US Army in the mid 1960s. The rifle is now the standard issue rifle of the US Army and fires the slim, lightweight 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge. It has a number of modern features including a telescopic stock and an integrated rail system for the mounting of optics (M150 4x optic, or the M68 Close Combat Optic) and grips. Its light weight and high cyclic rate make it a very handy weapon in various combat environments.
~ In-game description

Gameplay

  • The M4A1 magazine holds 30 rounds.
  • Can be fired on automatic or semi-automatic.
  • The sights for the M4A1 are the flip-up iron sight, M68 red dot, and M150 (4×) optical sight.
    • The flip-up iron sight allows the user to zero the rifle for different ranges (from 100m to 600m).
    • The M68 red dot sight provides a clear sight picture in the center and peripheral vision, but it doesn't allow zeroing, limiting the long-range effectiveness.
    • The M150 optic allows the user to see enemies from long distances easily and engage enemies at longer ranges without the need to zero the weapon.
  • M4A1 is a well-balanced weapon with adequate damage, effective range, and bullet dispersion performance.
  • M4A1 shares its damage model and ballistic performance with M4, M16A2, and M16A4.
    • The 833 rounds per minute rate of fire sits above average for most automatic weapons. It can output serious firepower in close-quarter combat but makes the gun more difficult to control.
  • M4A1 is classified in-game as Carbine. Short rifles and Carbines are well-balanced in handling.
    • They output regular suppression effects, are relatively easy to point fire, and are effective at all ranges.
  • The Foregrip attachment is cosmetic and does not improve the gun handling as of Version 6.0.

History

The M4A1 is a gas-operated, rotating bolt, magazine-fed carbine. The M4A1 is an automatic variant of the M4 carbine. The M4A1 was designed from the M4 and was adopted by the US Army in 2012. It became the standard assault rifle/carbine of the US Army in 2014.

Trivia

  • Early models and UI of the M150 ACOG are fitted with the Killflash anti-reflection device. They are not currently available in-game.
