“ | The MEA is a military organisation formed out of the need to coordinate resources and defence policy between a number of aligned nations in the region. Their use of well-trained indigenous personnel and stockpiles of foreign armament means that they are well adapted to fighting against the most technologically advanced of opponents. | „ |
~ In-game description |
The Middle Eastern Alliance (MEA) is a playable faction in Squad. This faction is the fifth conventional army featured in the game. It was officially announced on July 21, 2020[1] and was released on September 23, 2020 as part of the v1.0 update.
History
While the MEA doesn't have a specific country that it's modeled after, people have speculated that it is modeled after the Iranian Army while others claimed that it is a mish-mash coalition of Arab countries, similar to the real-life Arab League. It is inspired by the Middle Eastern Coalition seen in Battlefield 2.
Flag
The MEA flag has a background of three colored horizontal stripes, light blue, black, and green. In the foreground, there is a white Hawk of Quraish holding a scimitar in each paw, with a seven-pointed star above its head.

In-Game equipment
The MEA predominantly combines Western firearms with Soviet heavy weapons and vehicles. They are also one of the few factions in the game that predominantly use battle rifles as their primary weapons, which fire full-power rifle rounds, providing high damage and suppression.
Their vehicle fleet consists of multiple light vehicles, a few tracked vehicles, and two types of main battle tanks. A unique feature of MEA vehicles is the additional UB-32 rocket pods, which are mounted on their BRDM-2 scout cars and MT-LBM APCs.

Trivia
- The faction is inspired by the Middle Eastern Coalition faction in Battlefield 2 and Project Reality.
- Based on the presence of German small arms and Russian equipment, the faction could be partially based on Iran. The current regime is a Russian ally, and the previous regime had some fairly advanced and/or capable Western hardware (F-14, Chieftain tank, G3). Iran did have some T-62s and T-72s that were captured from Iraq as well.
- The faction could also be a fictional stand-in for Iran and Iraq combined and might include places like Syria or Turkey as well.
- In beta testing, the faction was labeled "G3: The Faction." This was later changed, but remnants of this name can still be found buried in the Squad SDK.
