The land component of the Russian military. Formed after the fall of the Soviet Union from elements of the old Soviet Army, today's Russian army is a highly professional and technologically modern fighting force capable of rapid overseas deployment.
~ In-game description

The Russian Ground Forces is a playable faction featured in Squad. This faction is the second conventional army featured in the game.

History

After the Soviet Union collapsed, the military force of the newly-created Russian Federation was in a state of neglect. The Russian Armed Forces (RAF) was created, succeeding the dissolved Soviet Army as the main army of the Russian Federation. A branch of the RAF, the Russian Ground Forces (RGF) focuses on ground warfare. The RGF is highly trained and prepared and is tasked with the protection of state borders, the security of occupied territories, and distinction at land combat.

Flag

The flag of the Russian Ground Forces shown in Squad is the Russian Tricolor; consisting of three equal horizontal fields with white on top, blue on the middle, and red on the bottom.

In-game equipment

The Russian Ground Forces uses a diversity of equipment ranging from the Soviet era to the present; tried and tested and available in great numbers. Optics are available, but are not as advanced as in the U.S. Army. Also, unlike the Western factions, most vehicles of the Russian Ground Forces lack digital rangefinders for their weapons. They instead make use of stadiametric rangefinders on their vehicle optics, similar to the ones found on the Russian Field Binoculars. The only vehicles in their arsenal that have a digital rangefinder are the contemporary T-72B3 main battle tank and Tigr-M RWS light attack vehicle.

Trivia

  • The Russian Ground Forces models are based off of the 'Little Green Men / Polite People' of the 2014 Crimean Crisis and subsequent annexation of Crimea into the Russian Federation. Because of this, the soldier models are equipped with TRACT-branded (Based on the real-life Osprey 'Track' goggles) goggles that the soldiers would have bought themselves as eye protection was not standard-issue.
