The Russian made RPK was designed in parallel with the AKM series of assault rifles as a light machine gun, intended to replace the belt-fed RPD light machine gun. Touting a longer barrel, larger drum & banana magazines and integrated folding bipod, it is capable of much longer periods of sustained fire compared to its assault rifle cousin, making it an ideal weapon for beefing up a squad's immediate firepower.
~ In-game description

Gameplay

  • The RPK Drum magazine holds 75 rounds.
  • Can be fired on automatic and semi-automatic.
  • The RPK is fitted with a deployable bipod.
  • The sights for the RPK include the iron sight.
    • The iron sight allows the user to zero the rifle for different ranges (from 100m to 1000m).
  • The RPK has a unique damage model and ballistic performance.
    • The 599 rounds per minute rate of fire is on the lowest end for an automatic weapon.
  • RPK is classified in-game as the Automatic Rifle. Typically, Automatic Rifles combine the handling characteristics of Rifles and Light Machine Guns. They have relatively higher sway and hip-fire recoil.
    • However, the RPK's handling characteristics are a hybrid between Meidum Machine Gun and Automatic Rifles. It has recoil similar to Automatic Rifles but sway akin to Meidum Machine Guns.
    • They output Light Machine Gun level of suppression effects, are relatively easy to point fire, and are effective at medium to long ranges.
  • The RPK will not hurt hostile armored vehicles, but it can be used effectively against non-armored Technicals, Light transport vehicles, or Logistics Trucks to kill or wound the occupants. It can destroy the Motorcycles.

History

The RPK is a gas-operated, rotating, closed-bolt light machine gun (LMG) and squad automatic weapon (SAW). It was designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov in 1961 to become a standardized replacement for the RPD submachine gun. The RPK is the modified LMG variant of Kalashnikov's creation, the AKM. The RPK has a heavier and longer barrel than the AKM, which can allow the gun to fire for a long period of time without loss of accuracy due to the barrel heating up. The RPK can either use a 45-round box magazine or a 75-round drum magazine. The RPK uses 7.62×39mm cartridges.

Trivia

  • The abbreviation RPK stands for Ruchnoy Pulemyot Kalashnikova (Ручной пулемёт Калашникова) which means in English from Russian, "Kalashnikov hand-held machine gun".
