The Russian RPK-74, like its predecessor in the RPK, is a light machine gun variant of the AK-74. Featuring a longer barrel, larger banana magazines and integrated folding bipod, it is a very handy weapon to drop in and boost a squad's firepower. Along with the AK-74, surplus stores have proliferated into former Soviet states and into the hands of militia and insurgent groups.

Gameplay

  • The RPK-74 magazine holds 45 rounds.
  • Can be fired on automatic and semi-automatic.
  • Every 4th round of the RPK-74 is a tracer round.
  • The 652 rounds per minute rate of fire is below average for an automatic weapon but makes the gun more controllable in close and medium range.
    • The RPK-74 fires at 650 rounds per minute, 50 more rounds than the RPK and the same as the RPK-74M.
  • The sights for the RPK-74 include the 1P78 (2.8×) optic sight only.
    • The 1P78 (2.8×) optical sight allows the user to see enemies from long distances easily and engage enemies at longer ranges without the need to zero the weapon.
  • RPK-74 shares its damage and ballistic performance with RPK-74M.
    • The RPK-74 and RPK-74M have one of the fastest muzzle velocity at 960 m/s.
    • The RPK-74 will not hurt hostile armored vehicles, but it can be used effectively against non-armored Technicals, Light transport vehicles, or Logistics Trucks to kill or wound the occupants. It can destroy the Motorcycles.
  • RPK-74 is classified in-game as Automatic Rifle. Automatic Rifle combines the handling characteristics of Rifles and Light Machine Guns. They have relatively higher sway and hip-fire recoil.
    • They output LMG level suppression effects, are relatively easy to point fire, and are effective at medium to long ranges.

History

The RPK-74 is a gas-operated, rotating closed-bolt light machine gun (LMG) and squad automatic weapon (SAW). It was designed by renowned Russian designer Mikhail Kalashnikov in 1974 to become a modern replacement to Kalashnikov's previous LMG creation, the RPK. The RPK-74 was adopted by the Soviet Army in the same year as the standard squad LMG. Unlike the RPK, the RPK-74 has a longer and heavier chrome-plated barrel with a new gas block, a ring for the cleaning rod, a folding bipod, and a threaded muzzle. Other changes include a different front sight tower, strengthened rear stock trunnion, and reinforced magazine well. Also, the RPK-74 could only use the 45-round box magazines instead of the RPK's 75-round drum magazines.

Trivia

  • The abbreviation RPK from RPK-74 stands for Ruchnoy Pulemyot Kalashnikova (Ручной пулемёт Калашникова) which means in English from Russian, "Kalashnikov hand-held machine gun". 74 stands for the year the RPK-74 was designed, which is 1974.
